Minnesota Fire Needs Assessment

Fire created and maintained many of Minnesota’s ecosystems. The Minnesota Fire Needs Assessment provides insight into the historical and current conditions of Minnesota's fire-adapted ecosystems. This includes information on the historical fire regimes and the pace and scale of beneficial fire needed to maintain these systems.

Below you will find a two-page summary followed by an interactive Tableau site where you can explore the data and sort by Land Type Association, County, or watershed. This interface is best viewed on a computer and may be difficult to view on your smartphone.

Minnesota Fire Needs Assessment was developed by the Forest Stewards Guild with funding support from USDA State and Private Forestry. Members of the Minnesota Prescribed Fire Council provided valuable feedback on its development.
